CFTC Charges DeFi Protocols Over Crypto Derivatives Trading
The United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has taken regulatory action against three decentralized finance protocols – Opyn, ZeroEx, and Deridex – for allegedly failing to register various derivatives trading offerings. The CFTC has charged these protocols with violations such as failing to register as a swap execution facility or designated contract market, failing to comply with customer provisions, and illegally offering leveraged and margined retail commodity transactions in digital assets. The CFTC has ordered these firms to pay penalties and cease violating the Commodity Exchange Act and CFTC regulations.
